Work on expansion of the Belgaum airport which had headed into rough weather due to trouble over land acquisition, has picked up pace over the last few months.
The government has been able to acquire all the 298 acres around the airport required to upgrade it and is ready to hand them over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Rs.13.5 lakh per acre have been paid for the acqusition of land. Many people of Sambra had threatened to commit suicide in protest over the government acquiring their properties for the airport arguing that they would lose their livelihoods as their families had cultivated the fertile lands for many decades.
However, the government managed to pacify them by paying them huge compensation.

After long time we are hearing one good news. Last when i updated the comments on same the Govt should provide handsome compensation. AAI should starts it work and complete it on time with good runway and night landing facilities. Can you pls update whether it is at domestic level they are devloping or at International level
