On August 2, 2010 many news papers and I am quoting TOI here, in which Minister for large and medium industries, Murugesh Nirani was quoted saying that Mahindra and Mahindra and few other industries have expressed their willingness to establish their units at Dharwad.

The Hindu on same day, published this “While the Mahindra and Mahindra had agreed to set up their unit at Belgaum”

Mahindra and Mahindra company has the largest OEM from tractor engines to allied auto castings based in Belgaum. These components supplied by manufactures based in Belgaum and are direct standards of Mahindra QC standards, so Belgaum is a much obvious choice of Mahindra’s. Government of Karnataka should take interest in brining big names of foundry industries in proposed 500 acre foundry park near Machhe for international supplies, and give a support to local foundry industries to have joint venture for future entrepreneur developments in Belgaum , or else what is the use of establishing foundry cluster and including Belgaum for development of Automobile industry belt in Suvarna Karnataka industrial Policy.

From the news coverage it seems that the minister is not happy with the Mahindra unit being established in Belgaum and he is busy telling that even Mahindra is coming to Dharwad.
With inputs from Satish Kumar.

In view of the fact that the Belgaum Catholic Co-operative Bank Ltd., Belgaum had ceased to be solvent, all efforts to revive it in close consultation with the Government of Karnataka had failed and the depositors of the bank were being inconvenienced by continued uncertainty, the Reserve Bank of India delivered the order canceling its licence to the bank after the close of business on August 03, 2010. The Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Karnataka has also been requested to issue an order for winding up of the bank and appoint a Liquidator for the bank. It may be highlighted that on liquidation every depositor is entitled to repayment of his deposits up to a monetary ceiling of Rs.1,00,000/- from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).

The bank was granted licence by Reserve Bank of India on December 23, 1986 to commence banking business. The statutory inspection conducted by Reserve Bank with reference to its financial position as on March 31, 2005 revealed several disquieting features in the functioning of the bank. The bank was classified as Grade IV and was placed under operational instructions banning accepting of fresh deposits and premature withdrawal of term deposits, etc. The next inspection conducted with reference to position as on March 31, 2006 revealed that the financial position continued to deteriorate and the operational instruction issued were continued.

QuEST Global Manufacturing Becomes the 1st Indian Private Sector Player to Work Directly with Airbus for the Manufacture of Aerostructure Parts .

QuEST Global’s Selection as Airbus Preferred Supplier for Manufacturing Capabilities, ability to Offer Offset Fulfillment and Risk Sharing Partnerships, positions QuEST Global Uniquely Amongst Indian Aerospace Players.

The global aerospace engineering & manufacturing major, QuEST Global announced today that it has become the first Indian private sector player to manufacture parts directly to Airbus under the long term agreement.

This distinction comes after a stringent selection process by distinguished Airbus and EADS sourcing and manufacturing organizations. This is a first step into manufacturing relationship with Airbus on existing program with a view to expand engagement to many other sourcing opportunities to leverage QuEST Global’s capabilities.

QuEST Global has been recognized as a quality supplier to the aerospace industry through the AS 9100 certification received for both engineering services and manufacturing practices. QuEST Global has set up an integrated manufacturing facility ranging from Machining, sheet metal processing, assembly and special processing (thro joint venture with Magellan Aerospace). The facility is approved by Airbus apart from other certifications like NADCAP.

QuEST Global becomes the only private sector company in India to sign Engineering Services and Manufacturing agreements. Under these agreements, QuEST Global will support various current programs in Manufacturing as well as current and upcoming programs in Design. QuEST Global has also set up an aerospace supply chain eco-system in its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) which is spread over 262 acres in Belgaum, North Karnataka, India. This will be highly beneficial to Airbus from a point of view of being able to source fully finished aerospace components and sub assemblies from India apart from delivering offset obligations.

“This win highlights the strength and strategic importance of QuEST Global’s manufacturing and SEZ capabilities. We are honored by the confidence that Airbus has shown in QuEST Global and we are eager and well prepared to take on this engagement. QuEST Global’s Engineering along with Manufacturing from our Belgaum SEZ will provide the ideal ‘end to end solution’ to Airbus.” said Aravind Melligeri, Chairman & Co-founder, QuEST Global.

by Special correspondent Satish Kumar

Belgaum is being a backbone to auto ancillary units of Central and south India, but little has the government done so far on its development in this field known for body building of trucks and buses, earlier government though established Auto nagar, but lack of integrated facility and proper infrastructure the project failed miserably.

TELCO was smartly moved by Mr Sr Bommi regime to Dharwad, none of our Belgaum politicians could raise up on this issue ever and I believe they will keep falling too low till Belgaum looses on most of the front, the recent issues was of hero Honda plant which I wrote to CM and asked after TELCO; is Belgaum liable to lose more such industries, and even wrote to Pavan Minjal CMD Hero Motors.

The GOVERNMENT OF KARNATAKA Commerce & Industries Dept. in its email has replied that and I quote ” Commerce & Industries Dept. has come out with a New Industrial Policy 2009-14 with an emphasis on promotion of industries in backward areas of Karnataka. Normally, Department of Industries & Commerce suggests suitable locations to the investor for the venture. However, the selection of final location is the prerogative of the investor.

Belgaum, Dharwad and Haveri were the suggested locations to Hero Honda. However, Hero Honda has not yet finalized the location.”

What is that the politicians of Karnataka in rest of the state have such mealy attitude towards “on” Belgaum and what is the point in beating drums by Mr Nirani on Hero Honda plant at Hubli.

I believe be it Hon CM or Mr Nirani let Hero Honda decide on shown place of interest, well no talks have ever taken place on Mahindra and Mahindra plant in Belgaum, I believe we Belguimtes need have to live with this fake calls and false promises.

Let there be fair competition and I bet “on” Belgaum wouldn’t then ever fall out.

Read the earlier post on same topic.
