Under the Then and Now series, in this particular story the time gap between Then and Now is hardly 4 days.
For development trees are chopped and made way for a more widened road on which we can ply our vehicles and emit more CO2 and the trees which used to absorb them have been cut.
THEN: photo taken on Angol Road on Tuesday 9th February
NOW: photo taken on same spot Angol Road on Saturday 13th February.
See the difference between the two images.
This is the tree which has been cut just near to the Shri Aai Kalavati Devi temple.
Najar milate hi hua asar sarab ke tarah
ki o haqiqat gujar gaye ek khawab ki tarah
hosh me jo aya to saya bhi na unaka
payadil ke chaman ke halat thi ujade bag ke tarah.

In an endeavor to keep Belgaumites in tune with history and its historical era and pictures, here is another one.
The old photo is shared by Sahir Kittur and the colored one taken in 2001 by Subhash Photos.

The question is both the photos of the same Laxmi tek Temple complex. Musketry Hill, Belgaum’ is written on the old photo.
According to me they both are the same. And I have confirmed the same with some elders and they agree with my thought.
The B/W photo has been taken in 1900 and the colored photo in 2001 that’s 101 years later.
This is great piece of history we all should save.
Your thoughts on the same are welcome, if anyone could just add some more bits of history to this.

I was trying to start this series long back, but with the help and initiative of Mr.Sahir I have started this new series. Then & Now.
As the name suggests, it’s those old photos of Belgaum found on the internet, and this is the only site which has brought them for you in one place.
Here is the first one in this series.
This colored printed postcard c.1910 published locally by Mahadeo & Son shows a view of the Officers Mess at Belgaum.

Officers Mess in 1910

Officers Mess in 2009
See any difference other than the angle in the photo, all looks same. As it was 1910, a few trees have grown taller and few new ones have come in, Camp is a heritage area.
