Ramesh L. Jarkiholi, district in-charge and Small Scale Industries Minister directed officials of the Public Works Department to inspect all the bridges in the district and submit a detailed report on their condition within a week.

This comes after the havoc caused at the Savitri bridge collapse in Mahad, Maharashtra. The said bridge was built by British about 100 years ago and the company which built had sent a letter that the said bridge be demolished as it has lived its life.

With respect to the 1905 built Railway over bridge connecting Gogte Circle and Basveswar circle, the minister said that the railway authorities had inspected the quality of the RoB and declared that there was no danger from it. He also made it clear that this statement was as per the records given to him by the PWD department.bridge-repair

Earlier in April this year the Past presidents forum had brought to light the bad condition of the said oer bridge which had developed cracks.

It may be noted that the said Bridge was built by the British and work commenced in 1901 and work was completed in 1905. In 2005 the company which had built the said bridge which has its office in England sent a letter to the Corporation stating that the guarantee of the bridge is over and it would be better if a new one is constructed and the company has no responsibility hence forth.

Heavy traffic was banned in 2005 and later on many occasions but on paper alone.
So again are we waiting for the Bridge to collapse is the questions asked by many citizens.

Even after 69 years of Independence from the the British we are still utilizing structures built by them and we could not even construct one.
