The estimated cost of the entire development along with musical fountain, landscaping (6000 sq.mts), food court and utilities will be Rs.25 Crores. Yeddyurappa said Rs 25 crore will be earmarked for the theme park and glass house at Vaccine Depot in Belgaum, to commemorate the second World Kannada Meet (WKM). The theme park will be developed with statues of freedom fighters, littérateurs and pro-Kannada fighters.

The Save Vaccine Institute Action Committee has opposed this making of a glass house. Conservation and Social Scientists of repute have spent their time and personal resources to think things through and present a suitable plan to the authorities. They have also suggested that an agency like INTACH, which has the wherewitthal to give the best plan and implement it be please be contacted, engaged with, and taken into confidence in this matter.

Ever since our erstwhile CM Shri Kumaraswamy wanted to build a Vidhan Soudha there, a group of concerned citizens of Belgaum have tried to engage with the administration and the elected representatives regarding what is most suitable for Vaccine Institute.

Then the Vidhan Soudha was shifted to Hlaga-Bastwad and that moment had declared that Vaccine institute will be developed into a Heritage park.

  1. Dear Belgaumites,
Any proposed structure should be designed and built in such a way tat no trees are cut and with minimum damage to the eco system of the Vaccine Depot….
The glass house at Lal Bagh in Bengaluru is a colonial structure. The government shouldn’t just imitate the same structure here.. We are no longer under the imperial rule of british to follow tat kind of architecture…
Instead the government should invite eminent Indian Architects or hold a open competition to design a green, eco friendly, efficient and sustainable structure in a ecologically sensitive site like Vaccine Depot…The Arcitecture should reflect the vernacular & traditional aspects of the city & the state.
I think the BELGAUM NEXT Forum should come into action at this stage. We can get in touch with IIA(Indian institute of Architects), INTACH (Indian National Trust For Art and Cultural Heritage) & IGBC ( Indian Green Building Council) to hold a open design competition.
I would request AAB & BELGAUM NEXT to kindly give it a serious thought and also me as an Architect will always be available to co ordinate on this matter.. I think we should swing into action before its too late..
