The Central railway has floated a tender for the survey of the Karad-Belgaum via Nipani
[Tentative distance 200.00 kms] and also Kolhapur-Rajapur Road [Tentative distance 90.00 kms] .
The survey work has be completed in 4 months including the monsoon.
In the last years rail budget the same was mentioned and the Central railway has now floated a tender for the survey which is a very welcome step.
Once finalized the new route will reduce the travel distance to Mumbai and would be almost parallel to the NH4.
In addition to this route the Kolhapur-Rajapur rail line will which will connect the SWR/CR to Konkan Railway will give better access to Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Ernakulam from Belgaum.
On the other hand the Govt of Karnataka has raised a Bankability (Feasibility study) report for Belgaum Dharwad rail line even though its lot economical, commercially viable and will connect Bangalore reducing travel time.
As still this is a feasibility report alone, after the feasibility report is sought then tenders for survey work would be floated and hence the time needed for the Belgaum – Dharwad line to begin will be atelast 2 years from today. But the Karad- Belgaum route could begin by next year it self.

Most of the youth from Belgaum district and its surrounding are residing now in Bangalore for their jobs. Belgaum-Dharwad double line is most wanted route which can reduce the Belgaum-Bangalore journey hours by at least 3 hours. It is observed that all the time, very less number of trains running in this route even after this route’s trains are always full. Every time need to struggle a lot to get the tickets booked. So it’s high priority request to complete this project as soon as possible.
Karad-Belgaum-Dharwad-Hubli Direct Rail. This Demand is long pending. Thanks to Private Bus Operators Lobby.
two tracks please, no overshot expenses for further surveying and track doubling in future, i want double decker trains with increased frequencies in the morning and in the evening.
monorail from CBT to Angol, anyone ? within the city get city corpporation to get roads reaired and KSRTC to plan buses (big and mini) all the time and to all the places for example Bhagyanagar 2nd Cross, Bhagya Nagar 4th Cross, Bhagya Nagar 6th Cross, etc so that people should not any two or four wheeler.
next conductorless intercity express buses, both usual (old Tata and Ashok Leyland) and modern (Volvo, Mercedes, etc) between, Belgaum-Hubli, Belgaum-Dharwad, Belgaum – Kolhapur, Belgaum – Bengaluru, Belgaum – Panaji, etc new bus stand with satellite bus stands at Railway Station, MM Extension should also be functional. outstation buses should begin from new terminals and end to the same terminal.
so many wishes… who will grant them… i think we should fight for our needs. ANYONE FOR BIO-DIESEL HYBRID BUSES ?
What about Hubli-Belgaum line? Waiting since long ! Uday any updates on the other Infra projects? – Ring road, Cricket Stadium, renovation of Railway station and Busstand, CBT etc?
Good News…But we need Belgaum to Dharwad as well asap. All Belgaumites should fight for this long pending track demand. Dont know why all politicians atleast from Belgaum region are quite as majority BJP MLA’s are from district itself.
Right Sandeep! We need this line. Currently its so much of waste of time, money and energy going via Londa!
The Indian Railways does a great injustice to our region. The proportional expenditure for our region is way less than the proportional revenue. Belgaum-Dharwad, Belgaum-Kolhapur (via Sankeshwar), Belgaum-Bagalkot are the lines whose realization is common sense. We should thank the Britishers, else even Belgaum would have been without trains. How many trains ply between Blore and Bgm? 1. This is utter stupidity.
Thanks Uday for your quick response on publishing the news, My only efforts is a common Belgaumite may wake up now and shake up our public representatives in Belgaum for their most needed action, till its too late to cry foul after the rail budget is announced early next month, besides many unviable projects are done without bankability reports such as Hubli Ankola( Now stalled due to lack of clearance from MoFE) , Mr Yadiurappa have sanctioned Shimogga Haveri line, Hairhar Kotturu line only benefitted Reddy brothers for ill-gotten quick movement of Ore now banned for exports. Belgaum Dharwad line would certainly raise prominence of Belgaum as second capital. if only some so called N Karnataka MPs and MLA don’t hinder this project and delay, the last update I could dug up is the bankability report was awarded to Arkitechno Consultants on 3 Jun 2011, they have only submitted an Interim report and study is still in progress already double of three months lapsed, the favored projects are being contracted with SPV and viable and economical are being done thorough PPP on cost sharing basis, why do we Belagumites are always on receiving end?
The Survey of Belgaum Kittur Dharwad should be completed as early as possible with Double track.
Karad-Belgaum Line is awaiting since long time.!! Hope to finish it soon!! Would love to see train parallel to NH4 !!
wow hope work begin soon
Gud news
