Legislature session in Belgaum in June last week

The TOI reports that chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda has taken a decision that the monsoon session of the Legislature would be held in the last week of June.

Currently almost 95% work is complete and the various interior works are in progress. The main dome of the building is being built in Gulburga by Vishveshwaraiah Tuljaram Naindrakar at a cost of Rs.71 lakhs. Ashoka emblem on the top of the main dome of Suvarna Soudha, made in bronze metal with gold paint lacquer and seating arrangement of 8.33 ft diameter on top of the dome with 6.92 ft base diameter of emblem and height of 12.07 ft and weighs 6.5 tonnes.

B G Shirke Construction Technology Private Limited a Pune based company which is building the Suvarna Soudha has got many deadline extensions.

The initial cost of the project was Rs.256 crore July 2010. The entire area is 127 acres on a hillock at Halga Bastwad villages on the NH 4.

Soudha would be a four-storied building, including the ground floor. The second floor will have rooms to accommodate ministers and personal staff, secretaries and other offices. The ground floor will contain a banquet hall, library, conference hall, canteen, post office and a bank. The pillars would be designed in Corinthian columns. The assembly, council and cabinet halls will be in the third floor.

Work on landscaping, water connections, fixing of security services is still under process.

Project which started as a one year project is now over two and half years and the estimated cost has risen to Rs.397 crore.

As on date there is no residential facility for the MLAs, staff etc.
