Rapid Industrialization, unplanned urbanization, population explosion, reckless and ruthless deforestation have caused ecological disaster opined Dr. M N Sreehari, Advisor to Govt. of Karnataka for Traffic, Transport and Infrastructure, Bengaluru. He was speaking after inaugurating national Seminar on ‘Environment & Health’ Organised by Department of Community Medicine of KLE University at KLE Centenary Convention Centre, Belagavi. World Health organization, United Nations and Govt. of India are advocating for good living standards on the planet, unfortunately present environmental standards in India are far from satisfactory said Dr. Sreehari. He stressed that smart people make smart cities and called people to be environment friendly and sensitive. He added, supply of pure drinking water, uninterrupted power, good health, affordable housing for poor, trouble free traffic, water conservation, reuse of water, sewage treatment plant, focus is on renewable energy and concentration on enhancing greenery of the city are embodied in Smart city concepts briefed Dr. Sreehari.

Engineers, medical scientists, environmentalists, urban planners, policy makers, citizens & NGOs are the key stake holders in the smart city program and must join their hands for the effective implementation of smart city implementation in city called on Dr. V D Patil, Registrar of the KLE University. Human beings are ungrateful to the environment that we live in, we are not sensitive and have caused extensive damage to the mother earth and called on citizens not to harm to the environment. Majority of the health problems, the present generation is facing is originated due to massive pollution and damaged caused to environment said Dr. V D Patil.

Dr. N S Mahantshetti, Principal J N Medical College presided over the function. Dr. Ashok Dorle, Karnataka Medical Council Observer, Bengaluru, Dr. H B Rajsekhar, Director KLE Health Sciences Institution and over 276 delegates representing 7 states was present in the national seminar. Dr. S M Katti, welcomed and Dr. Sanjay Kambar proposed vote of thanks. Lectures, panel discussions, interactive sessions are part of the day long program.
