People from different walks of life gathered together and formed “Pyaas Foundation” which has taken the initiative to provide drinking water in the severe drought hit villages near Belagavi, without the interference of politicians or financial help from government in their work.

The foundation which is the brainy idea of Dr.Madhav Prabhu and his friends who were terribly shocked with the drought and the conditions in which the water was being drawn by the kids and the women folk.  The group decided to ‘Whatever is possible, we will do’.

Each village then each street was surveyed and water was supplied to the most needy and who could not afford a tanker. A group of volunteers surveyed each village spoke to the Sarpanch the village heads and ascertained their need of water. It was only after this that the tankers were sent to those villages.

Dr Prabhu said that group has been created by like minded people to provide drinking water to the poor in villages adjoining Belagavi. `We are having short term and long term goals. The short term for immediate action is to provide water by tankers to the villages worst effected by the drought. The long term is to get help from outside and prepare a comprehensive plan for the villages so they do not have to face situations like this again,’ he said.

Dr Prabhu said that Pyaas Foundation will work without political affinities and address the needs of the most needy. `In the next two week we want to supply drinking water to ten villages, three tankers every alternate day, that amounts to two hundred tankers. The group has to take responsibility of generation of funds, choosing the target villages, choosing the best routes and nearest water supply agencies, delivering the water, getting the people to the spots designated for distribution of water and then equitably distribute the water,’ he said.

The Pyaas Foundation has been registered with under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act 1960.
On 25th April Tankers were supplied to Macche, then on 26th April again to Macche, 27th Water was supplied to Prabhu Nagar and on 28th April Tankers were sent to Prabhu Nagar and Arlikatti.

Dedicated team volunteers who get up early morning and arrange for the tankers and then latervisit the villages and ensure supply of water.
