On Friday the Police arrested 12 accused, out of which 6 are said to be of Congress and the other 6 of BJP, in connection to the violent group clashes reported at Shahapur in Belgaum on Thursday night.
Rama Fakirappa Hasannavar (40), Laxman Fakirappa Hasannavar (40), Maruti Fakirappa Hasannavar (38), Anand Rama Shirur (26), Mallikarjun Nagesh Medar (23) and Amit Arjun Majukar (31) , whereas the arrested opponent group belonging to BJP comprises Hariom Khade (28), Vikas Manohar Gavi
(26),Santosh Prakash Kadolkar (24), Vivek Subhash Gawade (28), Sandeep Mohan Kokitkar (27) and Sadanand Jyotiba Masekar (36). The arrested were sent to judicial custody by the court.
There were clashes between two groups at Alwan galli near Government School No. 19 on Thursday.
Congress candidate Laxmi Hebbalkar and BJP candidate Suresh Angadi both came over to the police station to rescue their party workers but as the case was registered nothing could be dont there and only the court can grant them bail.
