Has anything changed after a year of Darshini’s accident at Udyambag

Photo of author

It was exactly one year ago on this very day when we saw a horrific accident at Udyambag where Darshini Sanjay Chougule (20) a computer science student was hit by lorry at Majagaon Cross, while crossing the road on two-wheeler. After speedy hit, Darshini fell down under the wheels of lorry, in which her face was brutally crushed claiming her life on spot and her friend was injured.

But has anything changed even after one year is the BIG Question.

There was a raasta roko done by students and the DC and the RTO had promised that heavy vehicles will not be permitted in the city during specific hours, but all in vain.

The road is now widened for sure but is still incomplete in some places and has already caved in some places.

Students protest to ban HTV traffic just after the accident in 2015

Even not a single traffic police deploys to manage the traffic. As the road is being widened to 120ft from existing 60ft, both sides trees on the road have been cut. This has made the traffic even messy. After the accident, people are angered against the negligence of police and other concerned authorities for neglecting the traffic management and not making helmet mandatory.
The police do check for helmets without fail, but have other traffic measures been in place which were promised or have to be done after the widening is over.

Where is the ban on heavy vehicles which was spoken about then or is it that we just forget things so easily that we have to wait for another Darshini to loose her life and then we awaken ourselves again.

Sanjay Chougle, father of Darshini had written about her –

My Daughter.
My Daughter lost her laughter.
Never was silent always chatter chatter.
She had a dream in her beautiful eyes.
But could not be fulfilled even when I am alive.
On her face she had a smile.
Which could be seen from a mile.
Never ever had a expression of doubt.
Always confident of everything all about.
For me I wanted to donate her eyes.
Someone could see the world but I could see her eyes.
Never ever in my wildest dreams I dreamt of this fate.
I could do nothing because I reached there too late.
My Daughter will definitely come in my next life I know.
Then I will beg to the Almighty to first let me go.

We lost Darshini very soon and we dont want another family to face a similar occurrence.
We just pray to the Almighty to give soul
rests in peace.

    • Dear Irfan ,
Why to play politics over a loss of a Life of a Young Girl , And for your kind information Belgaum MP is not directly responsible , its is the duty of the PWD Dept & the Local Police which comes under the State Government which is ruled by Congress Party .
I has present a that time and i know the pain of the loss of Young and dynamic girl , i really feel very sad as even today even after road widening not even a single police is present .
So please Stop politics and we can give a solution or suggestions to our Local Police and the Dist. Administration so that no such incident happens again .

      • Dear Madhav,
FYI this is not “Playing Politics”. My condolences are always there with Darshini’s family.
But as a common citizen of Belgaum, i have said the thing which is FACT.
& I think Belgaum Citizens Elect MP hoping for city development but not for MP’s own development.
Kindly let me know the responsibilities of an MP & any achievements of our MP.

        • Dear Irfan ,
Yes it is the responsibility of our MP , agreed to your point , but he is not directly responsible as it is the primary duty of the LOCAL ADMINISTRATION ( which reports to the State Government not the Central Govt. ) and to clear the pending work , as far as i know MP can help them and instruct them , but without District Administration MP Cannot do anything ., best example is FLY OVER BRIDGE which is still pending , this is a fact .
Hope you understand what i mean to say , and also to enhance my knowledge please let me know the DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of the DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION ( STATE GOVERNMENT ) , MP can only help in sanction of funds but the work needs to be done by the Concerned Local Administration with the help of PWD Dept. ONLY

  3. There is no much difference since last year! Instead the trucks have got better road to race there! They overtake one another as though a two wheeler overtakes another two wheeler! Its so difficult for the college students who use bikes for college! There are no traffic police till date, and as promised.,the heavy vehicles are not banned during the college hours., which was supposed to be implemented from 1st October 2015!

  4. I think its very easy to blame and point fingers at the administrators. Why can’t the citizens demand tougher rules and regulations for obtaing driving licences??? I bet they all want easy licenses. 99.99% of the citizens don’t obey or respect any rules of the road. So don’t complain when you get hurt. thats my one paisa feed back.

    Cheers
    Jay
