CSE’s (Centre for Science and Environment) new study points to presence of possible cancer-causing chemical in bread. Bread industry uses potassium bromate and potassium iodate, substances that are banned in many countries, but not in India; Indian regulators must act immediately and ban them the report mentioned.
Belgaum Bakers Association affirmed the bread and buns prepared in city and the district are completely safe to consume, as they are natural and free from chemicals as mentioned in the CSE report.
The Association said no chemicals are used in the preparation of Bread and may be bigger companies used those chemicals for longer shelf life.
