  3. I am Deepak Haldankar,my dad Raghunath Sambhajee Haldankar was Daulat's maternial uncle, i.e.Daulat was my first cousin.I had watched him perfoming on stage in a marathi play uttering the lines "Chandu chadla chinch che cha zadhawar —–" , when I was a little boy.I remember once he had asked me to enter a classroom and climb on the table when the professor was busy writing on the blackboard in Linghraj college,Belgaum 1955-56, during college ellections and canvass for him I shouted "Vote for D.P.Mutekar- Foot Ball is his symbol. The students in theclass clapped and laughed, the professor turned and lifted me down and asked to leave the classroom.
I admired him ,he was my rolemodel- I always wanted to be like him. He wrote me a letter after seeing my first film "Armying the Mountains" -a FILMS DIVISION short film screened in a cinema house in Belgaum. I felt so nice for being appreciated . I will cherish that moment all my life.
