Forest Dept stops illegal tree felling

The forest department on a tip off stopped illegal tree felling in the Londa forest range limits of Khanapur taluk on Monday. Vijay Mohan Raj, Chief Conservator of Forests led his team into the forest and raided the place and stopped the illegal tree cutting.

It is alleged that more than 500 trees have been cut illegally and the approximate value of which is Rs 3 lakh.

Deputy Conservator of Forests B V Patil has said that some of the land in that particular area is also private land hence the same has to be verified and investigated whether all this was illegal.

As of now an investigation would be held and then further course would be decided.
