The Karnataka State government has decided to celebrate Krishna Janmashtami on August 17 and released Rs 69 lakh for the purpose. However, no holiday has been declared for the celebrations.

As per a government order dated August 11, 2014, every district and taluk has been given Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 each, respectively, for the celebrations. The decision to this effect has been taken following a petition by Karnataka Rajya Yadava Sangha.

In Belgaum a procession would be taken out from Fort Lake to Chennamma after Krishna Pujan at Fort Lake and a special program would be held at Kumar Ganhdrav Hall at 10.30 AM.
