LEAD Prayana kicked off at VTU Belgaum

belgaumOn January 7th, the LEAD Prayana journey was kicked off at VTU in Belgaum. The event attracted more than 200 people, including VTU faculties as well as students from across the country. Among reputable members present at the event included Prof. H. Maheshappa (Vice Chancellor, VTU), Mrs. Jaishree Deshpande (Founder and Trustee, Deshpande Foundation) and Naveen Jha (CEO, Deshpande Foundation).

What is LEAD Prayana?

LEAD Prayana is an annual leadership journey hosted by the LEaders Accelerating Development (LEAD) of the Deshpande Foundation in Hubli. From January 7th to January 21st, 100+ college students from throughout the country will travel across Karnataka, interacting with reputable role models, going on exposure visits, and engaging in hands-on and community activities along the way. As the LEAD Prayana tagline suggests, students will become inspired in order to unleash their leadership potential by exposing them to individuals and institutions that have innovated and implemented solutions to major challenges. Through this leadership journey on wheels, the LEAD Program aims to instill in youth the need to bring about change through effective leadership.

LEAD Prayana: Role Models and Destinations

This year’s journey includes visits to Charaka/Desi (Sagar), Manipal University (Manipal), Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (Dharmasthala), SIRI (Dharmasthala), Suspension Bridge (Sullia), Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (Mysore), Infosys Campus (Mysore), Organic Farming at Mavanhalli Farm (Dodballapur), Agastya International Foundation (Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh), VRL Logistics Ltd. (Hubli), Akshaya Patra (Hubli), Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya (Hubli), Safe Hands 24×7(Hubli), Seven Beans (Hubli).

Role models and speakers for this year’s journey include Jairam Ramesh (Hon. Minister of Rural Development, Government of India), Dr. Veerendra Heggade (Dharmadhikari, Dharmasthala), Dr. Gururaj “Desh” Deshpande (Chairman, Sparta Group LLC), Raju Reddy (Founder and CEO, Sierra Atlantic), Ramji Raghavan (Founder and Chairman, Agastya International Foundation), Dr. H. Introduction to LEAD

The LEAD Program of the Deshpande Foundation fosters innovative and entrepreneurial thinking within college students by exposing them to social issues, encouraging them to volunteer their time and effort into the community, and igniting their latent talent to come up with creative solutions. Through the unique platform provided by LEAD, more than 17,000 students from 75 partnering colleges throughout Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are implementing bold solutions to big problems in their communities and developing important leadership skills.
