majali yoga belgaumInspiration sounds best when it comes from someone at home. It’s a feeling of profound joy when the sincere efforts of distinguished Belgaumites are recognized by people beyond our geographic domain. AAB is proud to report of one such accomplishment that happened in the form of a Lifetime Award which was awarded to Ex-Principal G.S.Sc.College, Belgaum Prof. Vijay Majli at Mumbai on 4th Jan 2014. What is even more noteworthy is that the award was conferred by a “Guru” to his “Shishya (student)”.

The Yog Vidya Niketan of Mumbai, founded by Padmashree Sadasiv Nimbalkar conferred the award upon Prof Majli at a function held at Yog Vidya Niketan, Vashi, Mumbai in recognition of the establishment of the Kaivalya Yoga Mandir, Mandoli Road Belgaum and his lifetime commitment to the spread of Yoga as a means to healthy living in the region of Belgaum and beyond.

Prof Majli’s tryst with Yoga began in the year 1976 under the guidance of late Sri Hanmantrao Sawant of Belgaum. He subsequently started conducting classes at Samarth Mandir, Tilakwadi and shifted a couple of premises before setting up his own organization, the “Kaivalya Yoga Mandir” along with the help of his friends and fellow Yoga practitioners. The turning point in his time came when he met Dr. Gunde and subsequently Padmashree Sadashiv Nimbalkar who helped him inculcate the philosophy of “Living Yoga”. With new found inspiration and vigour and the much needed simplistic and scientific approach to yoga, Prof Majli and his team commenced efforts to have premises of their own. They received financial assistance from various patrons and citizens of Belgaum and the building of the Kaivalya Yoga Mandir was inaugurated by “Nimbalkar Sir” in 2000. Dr. Prabhakar Kore (M.P) provided much needed support and assistance in providing the land for the project.

A visit to this centre in the midst of our town provides an experience characteristic of the much sought peace that is missing in our hectic daily lives. The ambience is one of simplicity and harmony; symbolizing the selfless commitment of the founder to the cause of the spread of the message of Yoga. The centre has been visited by Yoga stalwarts like Sri Anna Vyavahare, Dr.Samprasad Vinod and more recently Baba Ramdev who have been more than appreciative of the ambience of Kaivalya Yoga Mandir and the efforts of Prof Majli and his team.kaivalya

The Kaivalya Yoga Mandir runs 3 batches at their centre at Mandoli Road and hundreds of Belgaumites have benefitted from the services and guidance provided by Prof. Majli and his team. His wife Mrs. Shobha Majli ably assists him in his endeavour.

The unique feature of his contribution has been the fact that right since the beginning, he has not used “Yoga” as a tool for gaining popularity or making money as is practice in most other centres of the sort.

A simple, ethical self who has relentlessly pursued the practice and experience of Yoga since 1976 Prof. Vijay Majli is a source of inspiration and a symbol of selfless service. We at All About Belgaum are proud to be acquainted with him and wish to share our joy in the accomplishment of this wonderful Belgaumite.
