Neurologist Wali wins prize

Noted neurologist from Belgaum Gurusiddeshwar M. Wali won the second prize in the Video Case Regional Section Competition from the Asian Oceanian Section conducted for researchers from three international regions across the world by the Movement of Disorder Society (MDS), Milwaukee, U.S.

Dr.Wali’s entry “A floppy boy who went to school” featured a patient from Raibag, who had been suffering from dystonia (a condition wherein the body is stiff and twisted) since his birth and was unable to walk. The patient was diagnosed of having as very rare case of Sepiapterin Reductase Deficiency (SRD) and was treated with medicines. The patient improved within 18 hours of commencement of treatment and was able to walk independently. Now, the patient, a young boy, was able to go to school on his own and even play football. However, the case required advanced investigations, which were done in Switzerland.
