It was a dream come true at the KLE University’s Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Research Center as the Doctors successfully installed and used an Optical Coherence Tomography(OCT) to Optimize our angioplasty results.
This is the First installation in South East Asia as per industry sources.

The team of cardiologists led by Dr Suresh Patted, Dr Prabhu Halkatti, Dr Sanjay Porwal, Dr Sameer Amber, Dr Prasad MR and Dr Vijay Metgudmath and technicians were a part of this great feat.
The Doctors said it makes them feel highly proud and satisfied as they can give a complete full proof angioplasty treatment at an affordable cost to deserving patients who come to the hospital which is a referral Center in this part of the country.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an optical analog of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) that can be used to examine the coronary arteries and has 10-fold higher resolution than IVUS. Based on polarization properties, OCT can differentiate tissue characteristics (fibrous, calcified, or lipid-rich plaque) and identify thin-cap fibroatheroma.  Recent OCT studies have provided insights into restenotic tissue characteristics; DES restenotic morphologies differ from those with BMSs. OCT is a novel, promising imaging modality; with more in-depth assessments of its use, it may impact clinical outcomes in patients with symptomatic coronary artery disease.
