The village of Waghavade about 12 kms from Belagavi city which was in the news as the School going girls decided to arm themselves with sticks to secure themselves, the Police department and especially the new women DCP Law and Order) G Radhika has shown keen interest in this issue and today visited the village and spoke to the villagers and the girls at length.
Speaking to the villagers, she assured the women that women safety is a key issue whether at home, outside the home or working place. She plans to bring major changes in the way crime against women are dealt and enlisted a series of measures to ensure their safety.
During the interaction with the villagers she handed over a list of contact numbers of Women police officers which included her mobile where they could contact without any hesitation. Women constables in civil dress will also be deputed on Buses to the village she added. couple of constables will be deputed near the school during specific timings for the safety of the school girls.
Then DCP headed towards Markandey Nagar and spoke with the villagers there as it was aleged that the eve teasers were from there.
The residents said that they too respect women community and are against the activities of eve teasers. There may be few youths from their area which were engaged in eve teasing activities, but not all, they said.
DCP G Radhika who has just assumed office spoke to the school girls and explained them about the good touch and bad touch and asked the parents to stand in support of the girls if they have to complaint.
The entire village was very contented with the steps taken by the women officer who had just assumed office.
PSI Krishnaveni, Belagavi Rural Police Inspector Narayanswamy were also present during the meeting at both the villages.
