Session day one debates on farmers

Photo of author

Sugarcane farmers protested near the protest site of Suvarna Vidhan Soudha and also blocked the NH4 for over 5 hours for the issue of long-pending dues to sugarcane farmers by sugar mills. Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party staged a dharna in the Legislative Assembly as soon as the House met, demanding that transactions commence only after clearing the dues. 27-year-old Siddaram Laxman Hasare of Nilji in Raibag taluk, brought two containers of pesticide to the protest organised by the Karnataka Kabbu Belegarara Sangha, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and other farmers’ organisations near the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, where the monsoon session was on. According to sources, the protesters did not realise that Siddaram had consumed the pesticide. Fortunately, a few farmers smelled pesticide and alerted the police.session
