X-India expedition

The Directorate of Adventure in IAF endeavors to expose the youth of the country to first hand experience in flying and related adventure activities.With this aim in mind a two part X-India expedition was planned. In this part one microlight aircraft flew from Udhampur in North, via Belgaum and will continue to Thiruvananthapuram in the South. Another aircraft a powered Hang Glider (PHG) is flying from Suratgarh in the West to Barrackpore in the East.Picture 033

The expedition was flagged off on 09 Feb 11 from Udhampur. On 17 Feb 11, the IAF microlight aircraft arrived at Belgaum. The name of this aircraft is Composite Technology Short Wing (CTSW). It is piloted by Wg Cdr Akhilesh Chauhan, who is a helicopter pilot and has extensive experience on CTSW. He interacted with the students of Belgaum & introduced them to the thrills of adventure flying. A few students & local dignitaries were given air experience rides in the aircraft. The main aim of this expedition is to ignite the minds of students & motivate them to be a member of the exclusive fraternity of the Indian Air Force and be a part of this thrilling profession. The interaction has helped to generate interest in flying related adventure activities in youth in different parts of the country.
