On Saturday, Marathi-speaking people re-installed the signboard at the entrance of Yellur village in Belgaum taluk, It indicates that the village is in Maharashtra a day after it was removed. However the police removed the same on Sunday morning.

Similar boards were also put up at other places such as Sulga, Desur, Rajhuns gad. Sources say police is now going to these places to remove the boards in question.

The district administration, under police protection, had demolished the plaque on Friday after the High Court of Karnataka had questioned about the measures taken to remove the plaque, following a public interest litigation by social activist Bhimappa Gadad.
Yesterday evening DC, N Jayaram said the signboard was illegal and would be removed soon. He appealed to both Marathi and Kannada-linguistic communities and their leaders not to issue provocative statements and harm the harmony and peace of the region.

  1. Our patience is being tested repeatedly by the jingoists, even ignoring court orders. Time is nearing where Kannadigas will have to put up “Belongs to Karnataka” boards in Sollapura, Akkalakote, Miraj, Sangolli, Kollapura, Pandrapura etc. Why stop there, we should also claim our piece of land in areas in Pune, Mumbai etc wherever Kannadigas are in significant numbers.

Gujarathis should be allowed their rightful land share in Mumbai and elsewhere in MH. Biharis should also be allowed to do the same.
