No passport office for Belagavi as no Request received – MEA

The Smart city of Belagavi which is the second largest district in the state does not have a Passport office and all the citizens have to goto Hubballi for the same.

We had filed an RTI with the Ministry of external affairs to know the truth about the same and the reply was in way surprising.

The ministry has not received any request for opening of a Passport seva kendra or passport office in Belagavi from the State Govt.”

passport-rti-cutThe Belgaum Chambers of commerce in April, 2013 had submitted a memorandum to the then DC Mounish Modgil asking for setting up of a Passport office in Belagavi. But it seems the State govt is not really interested in asking or requesting for the same with the ministry.

The RTI reply clearly states that NO PSK has been sanctioned and no request has been received also from the State Govt.

Every time Belagavi is projected as a second capital of the state but the state never takes any steps to provide such infrastructure like a Passport office when this city is a Educational hub with so many Universities & colleges.

Going to Hubballi to get the passport done takes one entire day and if there is any flaw in the application then the process has to be repeated again. If the passport office is opened here it will also help the people of the district as this will be easier for them to travel than to Hubballi.

Satish Tendolkar of the Past presidents forum who has been following it up with the City corporation said that, “A resolution was passed when Kiran Sayanak was the Mayor for asking of setting up a Passport office in Belagavi and also allotting space for the same at the Govaves shopping Complex. But in reality this resolution has not been taken out of the corporation even after a year and half. This just displays the inability of elected representatives in making the voices of the citizens heard.”
Even after Hubballi is not a district place but constant follow up by the elected representatives got them the PSK there and we hope our elected representatives also come up together for this cause and ask the state govt to send a request to open a passport office.

The smart city of Belagavi is TRULY smart on paper but when will the elected representatives come forward and work for a common goal.

  1. That’s really bad we don’t know when our elected representatives will take the initiative. It’s really shame and as u mentioned smart city will only be on paper let’s hope after reading this our smart elected representatives will take the initiative.

  2. Very sad to hear about this…Being a divisional HQ, we gave to go to Hubli-Dharwad for all govt. Services. Divisional Offices of HESSCOM, NWKRTC, POST, RAILWAYS, PF & ESI, EDUCATION, KSSIDC, NHAI are all based at Hubli Dharwad. Our MP & MLAs have turned a blind eye on these issues. As said Smart city is only on papers. Because of this we are not able to overcome the Hubli lobby in availing basic services for our city.

    • Does this mean only geographical location of a city matters…..We should not be only one city-centric. Inclusive growth means balanced approach for all the district’s..Belagavi being a big district the number of applications are more. This justifies for another PSK. BCC and our Hon MP should initiate quick actions for this.
