In the final pool-deciding match of the knock-out phase of the Qualifying Round 2013 of the Royceton Gomes Memorial Football Tournament, M V Herwadkar School played against KLE International School. There was never a dull moment in the match. Herwadkar took a lead early on in the match with the captain Srihari Ughade scoring a goal in the 9th minute. KLE fought hard to equalize the score but their effort was thwarted by great defence of Herwadkar. However, in the 22nd minute, Musharaf Chourdhary of KLE School managed to score a goal and equalize the score by the first half.
In the second half, there were many chances for both teams to score but the captain of Herwadkar Srihari Ughade had a great day of scoring by putting in goals in the 41st and 49th minutes. Herwadkar School won the match 3 – 1.
Herwadkar School emerged the First Qualifier and joins Phoenix Eng Med School and KLS School in Pool B. The Second Qualifier is KLE School and joins Marathi Vidyaniketan and Cantonment School in the Pool C.
Herwadkar School and KLE School join the Top Ten Schools of last year (rank in brackets) — Islamiya High School (1), St. Paul’s High School (2), Phoenix Eng Med School (3), Marathi Vidhyaniketan (4), Dnyan Prabodhan School (5), Beynon Smith High School (6), KLS School (7), Cantonment Board School (8), Mahila Vidyalaya School (9) and St. Xavier’s High School (10) in the Main Draw 2013 that begins on the ‘A’ ground of St. Paul’s High School on Thursday, 1st August, 2013.
