Niranjan Navalgund wins silver medal in Commonwealth chess championship 2012

Belgaum boy Niranjan Navalgund bagged the Silver Medal in the (Under-18 open category) Commonwealth Chess Championship-2012 held at Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Chennai from 22nd November to 1st December, 2012. 

About 450 chess players from 18 commonwealth countries participated in this mega event. Niranjan gained around 25 ELO points from this tournament and scored 7.5 out of 11 rounds. Being National U-17 Champion during 2010-11 Niranjan was qualified to represent India for the major events like, Asian, Commonwealth & World Championships during 2012.

Mr. N.Shrinath of Chennai bagged the Gold Medal Under-18 category and Grand Mastser M.R.Lalith Babu was declared Champion of the Commonwealth chess championship-2012. Tiviakov of Netherlands was declared the open Champion. In the open category GM Shyam Sundar, SP Sethuraman were the other medal winners in the tournament.
