Are we being looted for Car parking in Bapat Galli

Photo of author

One has to pay Rs.20 for a duration of THREE hours of CAR (four Wheeler) parking at Bapat Galli car parking which is authorized by the Belgaum City Corporation.

But Team AAB found in the Public Disclosure Schedule(PDL link on website) for the year 2010-111 which is on the corporations website something amazing. [The document on the City corporation website shows created on 17 September 2011, so this must be latest one]

The Public Disclosure Schedule, mentions as Rs.5 are charged with no mention of the duration for which it is charged.

Now even if one assumes Rs.5 per hour then for THREE hours one must be charged Rs.15 but one is charged Rs.20.

The PDS also mentions that 100 TWO wheelers( Parking Fee: Rs.2) and 50 Four wheelers can be parked.

Now Two wheelers are visible but yes about 52 car were parked when we counted and another 10-15 could be easily accommodated.

Now the question is Are we being looted for Car parking in Bapat Galli?

The corporation normally auctions the car parking to some individual but in its Public Disclosure Schedule if it mentions Rs.5 then something is wrong.

About Public Disclosure Law: The Govt. of Karnataka vide its notification UDD 92 CSS 2009 dt. 26-11-2009, published the “Karnataka Right to Information (Disclosure of Information by Authorities Providing Municipal Services) Rules, 2009” (attached). Under this, it is mandatory for all Urban Local Bodies in the state, through their respective PIOs to publish Public Disclosure data as per the prescribed template and frequency after 1 year of the Notification i.e. 26-11-2010.

  1. Even the new parking facility created at Gondali Galli charges Rs. 20 for 3 hrs. This is definitely a nexus between the City Corporation and the Parking contractors. How do we ask the officials concerned with this?

  2. not only that, why can anyone park his 2 wheeler in front of any shop. what is this habit of shopkeepers keeping a wooden peice in front of his ship. corporation should do something about this. shopkeeper is not the owner of road which is in front of his shop.
