Four Railway overbridges in town

Photo of author

The people of Belgaum have been demanding this from a long time and on Tuesday the DC called a meeting along with the railway and PWD officials to finalize the plan to build FOUR over bridges over the railway crossings at the following places Old PB road, Kapileshwar Road, First Railway gate and Third Railway gate.

The work on the first bridge is most likely if all goes well to begin in about 45 days and that would the old PB road. The second one to be made would be at the Kapileshwar road.

A sum of 18 crores have been allocated for the project and the state and the railway would be paying in an equal sum.

The overbridge at Old PB road would be 620 mtrs long and would be built on Pillars so that the space created below can be used for parking and also it would facilitate the shop owners on the side. Once work commences here all traffic would be diverted to Mahadwar road. The land acquisition for the same has to be done by the Corporation and the DC has ordered that the same should be done immediately.

The over bridges are the need of the day as there is heavy traffic jam at all the rail crossings across the city. Sources said even if work starts in a months time it would take about 12-15 months minimum for the work to get over.

  1. I am still clueless about the need for multiple bridges in one area. The newspaper reports say bridges are to come up at Bhandur Galli, P. B. Road and Kapileshwar crossing. 3 bridges in that area? Same is with Tilakwadi. One each in the city and Tilakwadi should suffice for starters…till we believe it’s true 🙂

  3. in the same fashion more city bus routes, if possible mass transit (monorail, metro it is better to plan now), bicycle lanes, disable friendly features, etc Community police just like in UK, better libraries, throw out the old books and thinking. Compulsory paid parking. Free wi*fi just like in KSRTC volvo buses or make it subsidized.

  4. This city desperately needs a rail bridge at the mentioned points. It is long awaited. Hope it happens soon with no hurdles and people not objecting to it. Hope at least then the traffic would move smoothly at least at these places.
