Popular Scenic Spots, have been Turned Into Dumps Due To Littering By Visitors, however there are few groups who are cleaning these beautiful waterfalls site from this garbage.

Belagavi is blessed with natural beauty in its surroundings and most of the waterfalls, known and the so not very known have become dumps due to littering by visitors. The western Ghats as numerous waterfalls big and small but no one wants to save them for the future, each one just wants to enjoy, litter and go away.

waterfalls-dumpwaterfalls-dumpToday a group of trekkers went to a waterfalls in the western ghats and cleaned the waterfalls from plastic glasses and glass bottles.

In a bid to restrict people from littering at these places the group has suggested simple measures, such as putting up boards warning not to throw garbage and bottles inside waterfalls.

Tourists visiting these places throw plastic, wrappers and liquor bottles inside the waterfalls. Many times, the broken pieces of bottles hurt cattle as well as villagers, who drink from these waterfalls. This need to be stopped, and through our campaign we are trying to do just that, make more and more people aware about the repercussions of littering.

Villagers who live near the city’s waterfalls have said that garbage not only pollutes the streams, but is also a safety hazard, with glass shards from discarded bottles injuring people.

For cleaner Waterfalls:
Put up signboards with strict warnings about litter at every waterfal
Install garbage bins
Ban alcohol at tourist spots
Ask police to patrol the area and crack down on the use of narcotics and alcohol

  1. Agreed.
The water falls are so mesmerizing but are marred by the litter and misbehavior by drunken wo/men. Unfortunately these are well educated people and rich, come in hordes in cars & SUVs, with loud music & shouting. Dancing in the middle of the narrow roads. They are so noisy that you cannot even hear the sound of waterfalls. None of them seemed to be interested in enjoying the beauty of the falls and surroundings. If only we are self disciplined no one will complain. Admire those trekkers. May their effort to save the sanctity of these spots be successful.

  2. Its Strange that we keep our HOMES Clean and dont want it to become a dumping yard.
People “FIGHT” with neighbors for the garbage issues !!!
But when it comes to Public Places, all our the HOME RULES are gone.
We all are enough mature and should not do such acts.
These are PUBLIC Places, Hence the PUBLIC are responsible for such acts.
The Govt Authorities should implement “Fine/Penalty System” strictly.
    No one should be spared.
