Kittur Rani Chennamma’s birth place was Kakti fort

Kakati (on NH 4 towards Kolhapur) was the place where Kittur Rani Chennamma was born and grew up, has become nothing more than a name from the past and continues to face callous neglect. Kittur Rani Chennamma was born on 23 October (1778−1829) and was the queen of the princely state of Kittur in Karnataka.S he led an armed rebellion against the British East India Company in 1824.

Currently, there is nothing left but ruins of the fortress where Chennamma’s forefathers stored arms and evolved strategies against their enemies. Now only a couple of Burz stand while nothing else looks like a fort at all.

The majestic arches and pillars, the meeting hall and the massive yard where a couple of elephants could amble into can only be imagined.

  1. Our Archeological Survey of India is only for name sake. State Government is also for name sake. The same will happen to Belgaum Fort. It’s better to take action now or never.
