An international kite festival will be held in Belgaum on January 16 and 17, 2011 for the first time in Belgaum. Various teams from across the country and foreign teams will participate in the two-day festival. Flying kites attached with lamps and lights will be the festival’s attraction.
The festival will see a large number of kites, including dragon kites, train kites, stunt kites, parafoil, air-inflated, eagle and Kathakali kites. Fifteen national and five international teams will participate, including those from the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil and France.
Belgaum South BJP MLA Abhay Kumar Patil is sponsoring the festival, which is organised by the Bangalore-based Kite Clinic Club, a forum of kite fliers.
The main attraction of the festival is illuminated kites between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., a first for Karnataka.
The other events at the festival are a photo exhibition on kites and a coaching camp for children between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. International and national experts will teach the basics of kite flying to children.
The event might happen on the Savagaon road grounds next to the firing range towards Angadi College.
