SpiceJet and Pegasus plan to start operations from Hubli

Take this as some good news or bad news, SpiceJet and Pegasus Air have shown their intent to start operations from Hubli.

This is good news for the citizens of Hubli as currently Kingfisher only flies to Mumbai and it has discontinued its Bangalore service.

Sources have told this blog that, services could start as soon as the AAI gives the permission. Both SpiceJet and Pegasus Air are low cost airlines and both want to connect to Bangalore.

SpiceJet had earlier visited Belgaum and some talks were on to start operations from here but nothing has materialized.

The Belgaum airport which was started in 1942 and which is now closed for commercial flights is awaiting for a revival. The expansion plans of the runway is still on papers even after 10 years or so. The farmers whose land would be acquired have raised objections over some parts of the land and their access to burial and crematoriums to which the administration is looking into.

With this we may be forced to write one day the nearest operational airport for Belgaum is Hubli.

  1. In Europe and USA not all the industrial towns have airports. But the rail and road connectivity is so good that one will not find the difference. Connectivity to Belgaum by road has improved a lot just a few years back and connectivity by rail is the same, one that was created by British!!! Indian Rail has just modified this rail to Broad Gauge, that’s it. Karnataka Government is planning to have a Bullet Train kind of facility between BLR and BGM but when will that gets implemented, God also does not know!!!

  3. Really sad to know that…..We may need to hear more n more news like this as Shettar isgoing to be next CM and we cannot expect Belgaum to develop more than Hubli. Always this happens to Belgaum which is really sad for Belgaumites.

    • This can be a win-win situation for both Belgaum & Hubli, if the concerned authorities and our elected representatives (also we as Belgaumites) convince the Air-Operators, that a major chunk of passengers flying from Hubli are from Belgaum region and that they can think of starting hopping flights from Belgaum-Bangalore via Hubli & Hubli-Mumbai via Belgaum. This might be a reasonable solution at this time.

      • Good thought of Bgm-Hbl-Bng and Hbl-Bgm-Mum. Try to put the same thing forward to the companies. You never know it might just get started.

      • this is not a viable solution. if a flight picks up from hubli then again landing at belgaum within a very short period of time pose many complications. a journey of 1.5 hrs may extend upto 5 hrs..
