Around five officials from the Spicejet airlines visited Sambra airport to look for the feasibility of starting flights from here. When we contacted the company, they denied giving a straight forward answer but sources told us a team from Spicejet did visit Belgaum Sambra airport and ascertained the facilities available at the airport.
The Spicejet careers page makes mention of job openings for
Customer Service Executives / Senior Customer Service Executives and Security Executives / Senior Security Executives in Hubli and Belgaum.
By this it is confirmed that Spicejet is planning this time seriously to commence operations from Belgaum.

On Tuesday the technical team from Spicejet had visited Hubli airport and flights from Hubli might commence in mid September.

This is not new, in February 2011, Spicejet had first made plans to fly from Belgaum. In December 2011, the DGCA had approved the Spicejet time table for Belgaum to Bangalore but it never started it services for reasons unknown.

The current scheduled time table on the DGCA site does not mention Belgaum anywhere.

Sources told Spicejet plans to use its Bombardier Q400 aircraft fleet which is a new turbo plane with 78 economy seating.
As of now nothing is final and we could only hope that Spicejet this time would commence operations soon from Belgaum which boats of a airport which is one of the oldest, started in 1942.

    • Hello Sandeep, The only reason that I can think of is the Kannada- Marathi border issues is hampering the development of Belgaum. Hubli- Dharwad for that matter have taken all the pie from us. Now with the Survan Soudha in Place and opened I wish and hope all will be well and Belgaum MAY see some developments….
