10 people who attended the Tablighi Jamaat (religious congregation) in New Delhi’s Nizammudin and are in Belagavi when the lockdown was announced are from Indonesia.
The 10 people from Belagavi, who attended the event, have been quarantined for the last 14 days and none of them have shown any symptoms, according to DC Dr. S B Bommanahalli. They had come to Belagavi on 11 March.
The 10 who have been home quarantined as of now we’re staying in a Masjid. They traveled from Delhi to Bengaluru and then to Belagavi. When they were in Belagavi the lockdown was announced hence they waited here only.
As per The Hindu, Six evangelists and their wives had come to Belagavi after attending the Delhi meeting, to preach in villages. They arrived in Belagavi on March 16. They have preached at a mosque near the city and have not moved around, a COVID-19 squad officer said.
The men have been quarantined in a mosque and the women have been quarantined in a house in the old city in Belagavi.
Swab samples of all the 10 have been sent for testing and none of the 10 have shown any symptoms of COVID-19 as of now.
All their passports have been seized by the district administration.
There could others also who might have attended the Tablighi Jamaat and the administration is making all its efforts to trace the same.
Shindikurbet village of Gokak Taluka has been locked down completely as 10 persons from the village also had been to Tablighi Jamaat.
All of them have been quarantined at the Morarji Desai school and all the villagers were informed about the same.
