Mallikarjun Batgi and his family members are staging a dharna in the premises of regional commissioner’s office for the past 1100 days. The Batgis, who hail from Sarwad village near here, have been staging a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office since April 8 2007 demanding the arrest of Mallappa Kote and his friends who have been accused of assaulting them.

The Batgis, who belong to a Scheduled Tribe community, have also demanded action against some police officers who reportedly have sided with accused.

Today the family which included the children put stones on their stomachs and protested at the gate of the Regional Commissioner’s office. Later Assistant commissioner came and accepted their memorandum.

Earlier in December the family had began a Stand up protest and they always stood up and never slept.

It has been over three years of protest and many a times they were picked up and left somewhere else but the Batgi family has come back and again and is protesting.

In the memorandum it was demanded that the land allocated to them must be handed over soon and also irrigation arrangements should be done for the same.

  5. He has a right to protest if there is injustice, but he shouldnt drag his children into this, they have a right to go to school, lead a normal life, and experience joy and happiness of life. Or else they will grow up thinking that life means protesting in front of DC office with empty stomach

    • Very true why is he involving the kids yaa. This act of him indicates his level of self esteem. In fact can this be considered as Child Labour & it is happening in front of DC'S office. I hope things will be resolved as it is a shame for mankind & somewhere I feel this person is not interested to earn his bread. India meh haar ek bandha aapnay aap kho neta samajtha hai – negative side of democracy.
