90% Land Acquisition For Belagavi Ring Road Completed, Work To Begin Post-Monsoon

Land acquisition for the much-anticipated Ring Road project in Belagavi taluka is nearly complete, with 90% of the required land already acquired. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan confirmed that construction work will commence after the monsoon season, tentatively in October. Out of the total affected landowners, 80% of the farmers have given their consent and accepted compensation, while around 10% have approached the courts with objections. Despite the legal hurdles, authorities are optimistic about moving forward with the project. The update came during a review meeting held at the DC’s Office to assess the progress of key infrastructure works including the Ring Road, National Highways, and bypass roads. DC Roshan directed officials from the concerned departments to expedite all pending procedures and ensure timely execution of development projects. The Ring Road, which will span across 32 villages in Belagavi taluka, is part of a larger infrastructure push and is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the city. Initially, the project faced opposition from local farmers, but a majority have now accepted the government’s compensation package. Meanwhile, the work on the Halga–Macche bypass is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by February next year. In addition, updates were provided ; with 93% land acquisition completed for the stretch from Bastwad in Belagavi taluka to Ilkal in Bagalkot district—a corridor spanning approximately 180 km. The road is planned as a four-lane route that will form a part of the Hyderabad–Panaji highway. The National Highways Authority of India has sanctioned ₹1,622 crore for the phased implementation of the Ring Road. Preparations for launching the first phase are already underway. DC Roshan urged all officials to prioritize these major infrastructure works and ensure that execution stays on schedule, especially as the region gears up for critical connectivity upgrades in the coming months.
