In November 2019 Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa held a meeting with MoSR Suresh Angadi and other railway officials and gave his approval for the Dharwad-Kittur-Belagavi new railway line.
In the meeting chief minister gave in-principle approval to provide land free of cost & also share the cost with the Railways in respect of the new railway line between Belagavi & Dharwad via Kittur.
As the present Dharwad-Belagavi railway line passes through Londa, it takes more time to travel by rail than by road. It has been a long-standing demand of public and elected representatives of Karnataka to lay a direct line between Dharwad and Belagavi preferably via Kittur. To implement this work, the Final Location Survey for Dharwad-Kittur-Belagavi has also been completed.
The proposed new railway line passes through Dharwad, Kittur, and Hirebagewadi to reach Belagavi. The distance between Belagavi and Dharwad will reduce by 31 Kms once this new line is laid and would cost Rs.998 crores and it is very likely that the same would be included in the upcoming budget of 2020-21.
The detailed project report has been submitted and awaits the final clearance by the Railway department. Around 140 bridges will have to be built along with 11 stations for the said route.
Karnataka Railway Infrastructure Development Company (K-RAID) conducted an extensive survey of the railway line in October-November.
The survey included a total of 90 km of the Dharwad-Belagavi railway line. The gap has been identified as Rs 988 crore.

MoSR Suresh Angadi has followed the work on the DPR and now as well so that it gets early clearance and work could be commenced.
