Belagavi’s 7.8 Km Flyover To Rise 9.5–13 Meters High; Officials Assure No Impact On Shops And Businesses

Belagavi is set to get a major infrastructure boost with the construction of a 7.8-kilometre-long flyover aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across the city. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan confirmed that the project is being taken up jointly by the Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Of the total length, about 6.67 kilometers will be built under the PWD’s National Highway division, while 1.12 kilometers will fall under NHAI’s jurisdiction. The proposed flyover will link key junctions, including Ashoka Circle, Sangolli Rayanna Circle, Rani Channamma Circle, and extend up to Dharmveer Sambhaji Maharaj Circle. “The flyover will be constructed at an average height ranging from 9.5 to 13 meters to ensure commercial activities below are not disturbed and shop signboards remain visible, similar to metro flyovers in Bengaluru and Delhi,” Roshan said. The new structure will provide direct entry into the city from the national highway, eliminating the current dependence on service roads. It will also enable seamless travel from Belagavi towards Dharwad, Kolhapur, and Sambra Airport. Planning for the project has been underway for nearly seven months, with active involvement from the PWD Minister, senior engineers, local MLAs, and public representatives. Feedback from citizens was also taken into account during the design stage.
