Brown sugar racket busted in Belagavi – was mostly sold to College students

The Belagavi police have been able to nab as many 12 persons involved in selling Brown sugar in the city. Addressing his maiden press conference Commissioner of Police DC Rajappa told about the arrest of 13 persons including one woman from the city from whom 450 packets of brown sugar, bike, mobile have been recovered.

On tip off the CCIB on Tuesday raided a place near Jinabakul and apprehended two persons who when interrogated said that they used to sell the same near colleges and other places.

In all 11 youth and one woman from Mumbai have been arrested.

brown-sugarYashin Hassan 24, Azad Nagar Belagavi, Suraj Shivaji Shinde, 39, Sadashivnagar, Belagavi, Shakir Nizami, 19, Ujjal Nagar, Tabaras, Andewel, 19 Ghee, Gali, Belagavi, Salim Makkandar, 27 Sadashivnagar, Belagavi, Yuvraj Sunil Sarnobat, 27 Kangral Villagers, Shahbaz Balekundri, 19 Chirag Nagar, Belagavi, Aiyaz Mullah, age 20, Ujwal Nagar, Belagavi, Tabrez Desai, 19 Khanjar Gali, Belagavi, Wasim Dalai, 29 Shahu Nagar, Belagavi, Prachin Anil Sawant, 24 Shivaji Nagar, Belagavi Puran, Suresh Hundare, 24, Samrudhiyani colony, Ganeshpur, Kutubuddin Altaf, Balaykundri, 22, New Delhi, Nagar Belagavi, and 450 packets worth Rs.1.35 lakhs have been seized. Sushila Ponnaswamy resident of Sion, Mumbai Sisayan, is also arrested for holding 350 grams of brown sugar worth Rs. 1 lakh.

Yasin and Suraj used to get the Brown sugar to Belagavi from Mumbai and used to sell the same at Rs.300 per gram. According to Police most of the brown sugar was sold to college going students. The police also said that the same persons used to supply drugs to the miscreants who tried to create communal disturbance in the past 2-3 months.

  2. Hats off to u Belgaum police…the small steps can change many things but this is really appreciable…
    I request find the main drug dealer who is distroying our youth…
    And those students also who are now addicted to this rubbish thing should be found n given a better treatment..
    If u really want to see Belgaum as a smart city and if u have respect towards our nation start it right here…
    Protect our youth from being a victim..solve as many situations as you can…because our future is what we create not what we follow..
