Two women pilgrims walking towards Yellamma hill temple of Shree Renuka Devi at Saudatti were killed as an NWKRTC bus lost control and ran over them. Two pilgrims are were injured in the accident.
The accident occurred around 5.30 PM on Friday. The bus driver lost control of the bus and lead to the accident. Bus KA 29F 1187 was heading towards Saundati from the hilltop.
The deceased has been identified as Nikita aged around 21, of Narvekar Gali, Shahapur and the identity of the other women is yet be ascertained as yet.
It has been a tradition of farmers (devotees) of the region to travel in bullock carts and attend the jatra over decades. Lakhs of devotees throng the Yellamma Devi Jatra (fair) covering a radius of 20 km of the Yellamma Devi Temple in Saundatti.
