Citizens grapple with LPG shortage

Photo of author

Homemakers are having a tough time before the hearth, what with gas agencies failing to deliver LPG cylinders in time. Distributors agree there has been a shortage and blame it on the backlog created in March by the seven-day strike by truck and tanker owners transporting LPG.

The country, particularly south India, is facing an acute shortage of liquefied petroleum gas, something that the state-owned oil marketing companies attribute to a combination of factors, including financial constraints in the backdrop of their mounting under-recoveries.

The crisis is due to delayed supply of cylinders. There is shortage in the godowns too. Consumers are complaining that the gas is being delivered 60 days after booking.

The Marathi Mahila Manch and Marathi Yuva Manch today gave a memorandum to food and civil supplies office regarding the same and also demanded that the SMS service for booking LPG must be scrapped as not each one possesses a mobile. Also it was alleged that LPG cylinders were black marketed and sold for over Rs.1000.

Currently LPG cylinders are being delivered after a gap of 60 days.

  1. Best way is to book one cylender in black , follow the guy going to deliver, and ask the governing agencies to raid the premise, these trader are creating artificial scarcity to make some extra bucks , cancel license of private distributors if cusght in such mal practives…. Hotels must instal alternative energy resources for cooking fuel…
