The Belagavi city corporation after the order of the Deputy Commissioner in January has submitted a list of 162 unauthorized places of worship in its limits reports the Sakal.
The Supreme Court had directed all States and Union Territories in its verdict dated September 29, 2009, to ensure that “no unauthorized construction of any religious institution, namely, temple, church, mosque or gurdwara, etc., shall be permitted on the public street/public space.”
Citing the same and other orders of the State Govt. Deputy Commissioner Dr. SB Bommanhalli has issued a release stating that all the officers concerned must submit an action taken report about all such places in their jurisdiction by 31 January 2020.
The Corporation also says that 14 places of worship have already been removed out of the 162.
Now the Corporation is awaiting a final order from the DC’s office after which if need be They should verify the place of worship and if it is unauthorized the same must be demolished as per the order of the Supreme Court.
The authorities should approach the police and take police protection if required but no unauthorized place of worship should be there in a public place.
