Hundreds bid tearful adieu to Victims of Malvan tragedy

The bodies after the tragic incident on the Vayari-Bhutnath beach near Malvan of Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra of 7 students and 1 professor who drowned were brought to Belagavi on Saturday night 11 pm by four ambulances.

Cremation of three bodies was performed yesterday night while remaining five bodies were kept at Mortuary in Civil Hospital and were handed over to the family on Sunday morning.

mm-malwanThe last rites of Nitin Mutnadkar was held at Kakati, Prof Mahesh Kudachkar at Shahpur, Avdhoot Tahsildar at Sadashivnagar, Mujammil Annigeri at Belagavi Muslim crematorium and Maya Kole was cremated at Bambaraga village on Sunday morning in the presence of hundreds of people.

An eyewitness said, even after warning from locals 11 students holding hands of each other and ventured into the sea, within few minutes all them were taken inside with wave. All the other on theg shore were shocked and we screamed for help. Prof Kudhackar who was a very good swimmer dived inside to save the students but this time luck wasnt on his side and he too was drowned. Local by the time came with three boats and succeeded in taking out all from sea but till then eight of them were dead.

Maya Kole, only daughter of Shattuppa Bhagvant Kole farmer from Bambaraga village of Belagavi taluk is one among 7 Engineering students who drowned in sea on Saturday.

The emotions of Maya’s parents, brother and relatives were heart melting. According to the rituals her marriage was performed with a tree before the last rites which were perfomed infront of her house. The entire village was seen in deep grief when this ritual was performed.

Shattuppa Kole, father of deceased Maya said that she was our dream and its has been shattered. Even tough it was tough for us to raise money for her education we did it, and she used to always say after she completes her engineering she will pay back.
