A Japanese government delegation led by Project General Manager Yoshio Akiyama and Head of Cricket in Japan – Kushal Kamat visited Belagavi recently.
Parth Kamat, Managing Director of JPH welcomed the delegation.
Kushal said that Sano, is about 70 km from Tokyo, is known as the `Home of cricket in Japan’. It is the only city in Japan to have an International Cricket ground approved by International Cricket Council (ICC). He said that Japan government wants to attract tourists, cricket clubs, investors and others from across the world to Sano for making it popularise in cricket. The agency JPH is appointed to attract Indians to Sano in Japan, he added.
Kushal informed that Sano like many other cities in Japan, is facing a serious problem of a year-on-year decline in the local population. He said that this has resulted in the economy of Sano city dropping down every year. With serious concerns regarding its future, the Japan and the Sano city’s local government has commenced this SCC project in 2018 and decided to use cricket, Sano’s biggest asset, in order to revitalize the local economy, he said.
“As India is undoubtedly the biggest market for cricket in the world with an increasing population, the primary goal of this project is to build strong connections between India and Sano,” said Kushal. He said that the aim of the project is not only to increase the number of Indian tourists but to attract Indian companies and educational institutions to Sano. Japan will be offering an excellent opportunity for them to experience the true traditional Japanese lifestyle, he added.
