Kannada Study center of Hampi University to be inaugurated at Bharatesh

The ‘Dr. A. N. Upadhye Kannada Study Center of Hampi University’ is slated to be inaugurated at Bharatesh Education Trust in Belagavi, 5th July 2015. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled at Roopali Convention Center at 11.00 a.m. at the hands of Dr. H. C. Boralingayya, Hon. Vice Chancellor of Hampi Kannada University. Dr. Hampa Nagarajaiah, noted Kannada Scholar is the chief guest while the Guest of Honor is Dr. Shantinath Dibbad, Retd. Registrar, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. The function will also witness the release of two publications, biographies of Poojya Shree 108 Samantbhadra Munimaharaj and Dr. A. N. Upadhye, on whom the center is named, at the hands of Shri Jinadatta Desai, Vice Chairman of Bharatesh Education Trust. Shri Pushpadant Doddanavar, Chairman of Bharatesh Education Trust shall preside over the function.

The center is being started with a view to promote research in Kannada Language, History, Art, Drama, Sculpture and Literature, among other related subjects. This is the first Kannada Center of a University in a private educational institute in Belgaum. Hampi Kannada University is also the only University to have presence across Karnataka. This study center at Bharatesh Education Trust shall be open for enrolment of MPhil and PhD in arts subjects.

About Dr. A. N. Upadhye: The renowned scholar, on whom the center is being named after, was born on 6th February 1906 in Sadalga, Chikodi Tk. He was a scholar of Prakrit, Jainalogy and dedicated himself to Jaina studies and wrote many books on Jainalogy. He completed his primary education in Sadalaga and Secondary Education in Gilginchi Artal High School, Belgaum, followed by, Bachelor in Arts with Honours from Bombay University in Sanskrit and Prakrit languages. Later, he moved to Pune for Post-Graduation and joined Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute. In 1930, he completed Masters in Arts from the same university in Sanskrit and Prakrit languages. He has published more than 200 research papers in Indian and Foreign journals and attended conferences in Australia, France, Belgium, etc. He was the President of 46th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana which was held at Shravanabelagola in 1967.
