National Highway Authority of India’s toll collection point at Hire Bagewadi on Belgaum-Dharwad stretch of NH No. 4 saw protest from the KRV who were demanding the reduction of the toll. The toll was increased recently. The traffic on the NH4 was disrupted for about 2 hours.
KRV members demanded that the toll should not be collected as the service roads are not yet built and the ones built are in very bad condition on the Hire bagewadi- Dharwad section.
Protesters also criticized the NHAI for approving the toll hike even when the roads are not well maintained as seen with respect to the Belgaum – Kolhapur road.
The protest was called off after an assurance from the NHAI Dharwad office.
In an irony when the toll was hiked at this toll gate the toll was reduced at the Hattargi toll gate.
