North Karnataka state along with Goa Kolhapur

Photo of author

Agriculture minister in charge of Belgaum district Umesh V Katti has again said that a separate state be made as North Karnataka which will include Goa and Kolhapur as part of the new state along with Gulbarga, Belgaum and Bidar. The minister had made similar statements of statehood before the inauguration of the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha. He also said that let any government come but he only will be the district incharge minister for Belgaum.

The minister justified his stand that as by 2020 about 50 states are likely to be made in the country the demand for this separate Belgaum state is fairly justified.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S. Suresh Kumar has disapproved of the statement of Umesh Katti in favor of statehood for North Karnataka.

The KRV burnt effigy of the Umesh Katti saying this act is of dividing the nation.

  1. A SEPARATE NORTH KARNATAKA STATE IS REQUIRED. NORTH KARNATAKA HAS REMAINED A NEGLECTED REGION ,WHILE SOUTH KARNATAKA IS ON THE MOVE. I AM NOT ABLE TO DIGEST THE INCLUSION OF KOLAHPUR IN NORTH KARNATAKA ,SINCE THE CITY IS ALREADY IN MAHARASHTRA.

  2. well this seems in favour of Belgaum I support this cause.. The development should be centric just like the present case where development happen in bangalore and neighbouring 2-3 districts..
And as for the people opposing this thought saying integrity of state, I think some history should be told to them.. BELGAUM existed much before KARNATAKA and MAHARASHTRA were formed. So I give priority for my city’s development than it belonging to any state. Rather prefer to be an union territory. No linguistics or regional disharmony..

  4. Well, division of state, may inturn create new issues between two states, thus dividing people(kannadiga’s)The whole meaning of Karnataka Ekikarana, which was attained on 1956,due to the struggle, pain took by many great people of Namma Karnataka, will be lost.In my opinion,
this idea of Mr.Katti can be used in another way, with a different, positive approach.
Now,as the great structure “Suvarna Vidhan Soudha” ,the second seat of power, is constructed in Belagavi/Belgaum,all the offices/departments belonging to NK region should be moved to SVS,and all the elected representatives of NK region should be assigned with the ministership of only NK region, making the governance more structured and alligned, favouring both NK and SK regions.
For eg,transport minister for NK,Water resource development minister for NK etc.
By doing this, work load would be shared, and development of NK as well as SK region’s respectively can be taken care, and attain more faster. Also,Legislative assemby session should be held twice a year in SVS,instead of once,to discuss the issues and status of present development activities pertaining only to NK region. 🙂 This approach should make some sense 🙂

  5. The statement made by the senior and responsible district in charge minister is making the citizens of north Karnataka happy. But the hidden agenda of Katti family lies in Becoming CM of the new state if the state is created so that their sons and grandsons can keep ruling the new state for ages together. I think they are stepping into the shoes of the great great family called GANDHI??????. Mr. UMESH V. KATTI knows the truth that he is incapable of becoming the CM of Karnataka, in case if he becomes he is unable to run the state that is the reason that he is asking for a new state..

For Eg: kindly visit his constituency Hukkeri where there are no proper roads, no drinking water and many more. Can the people of North Karnataka expect some development from the minister if a new state is created??????

  6. Gulbarga and Hyderabad karnataka would not be part of this so called North Karnataka region, instead it would fight for its own state called Kalyan Karnataka with Gulbarga as capital

  7. I BEING EX SERVICEMAN DO NOT BELIEVE IN DIVIDING THE STATE ( NATION ). THE SO CALLED POLITICIANS SEE SOME COLORFUL DREAMS WHICH AN ORDINARY CITIZEN CAN NOT SEE AND THINK OR IMAGINE. IT WOULD BE BETTER TO DIVIDE COUNTY IN TO FOUR OR FIVE REGIONS FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE AND PERSONAL RELATIONS AMONG THE PEOPLE WITHOUT GIVING ROOM FOR LINGUISTIC PROBLEMS, AND BORDER DISPUTES.

  8. I think Mr. Katti’s statement (he may have other motives as pointed by other readers) is thought provoking. Indeed a separate N Karnataka state makes sense. With SVS in Belgaum and High Court in Dharwad, why not? The local crafts, arts, business will get recognition then. Why Bijapur/Badami doesn’t get the same recognition as Belur/Halebid? Why Bidri crafts of Bidar doesn’t get the same recognition as Channapatna toys? These are just 2 examples… there are plenty. So a separate state with Belgaum, Dharwad, Uttar Kannada, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Gadag and Haveri districts is must for development.

  9. This is absurd idea. Why devide state? who is the benificiery? Some people will become CM, FM, HM and multiply looting into manifolds. Currently there is one state and hence one CM, FM to loot us, with multiple states there would be multiple people. From the comments you can clearly see that people who would like to destabilize our contry are in favour of this idea.

Mr Katti should try to improve infrastructure and develop this region, rather then exploiting peoples sentiment for the self interest. What has be done to Belgaum till now?

  12. This is right thought. The states should be smaller because administrative purpose it resolves many issue. Also the funds are utilized to develop all the places equally and does not depend on how many ministers from a particular area who can influence. Till now places like Karwar is ignored and people do not have any opportunities in their own citi since it is not being developed much. The Karnataka government has ignored Karwar like places and have given most of it to the central government which again does not have any business or job opportunities to the locals. How will the locals survive when every thing which the government got is public sector with all facilities included in their own premises.
