Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi during the inauguration of a satellite office of the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Bengaluru, in Hubballi had said that the Railways was contemplating setting up a Railway Ancillary Export Zone near Kittur in Belagavi district.
The Railway Board recently submitted the proposal of setting up of an exclusive center to manufacture spare parts for train coaches and wagons at Kittur taluk in Belagavi district to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa. Now the Karnataka Govt has to agree to this and if done, Kittur will be the second place in the country after Rae Bareli to have this facility.
The Railways and the state government will not any expense as the manufacturers will have to pay for the land and install their units here.
The center would boost industries involved in manufacturing components required for the railways.
