Sandeep Patil, Superintendent of Police Belgaum in a press release has asked the citizens of Belgaum to cooperate and remove the TINTED GLASS (Black film) from the car windows.

This is being done as per the recent Supreme court order, he said.

A bench headed by Chief Justice SH Kapadia has made it clear that tinted glass(black Film) can be used in vehicles of government officials for security purposes and asked the state governments to frame guidelines regarding this. Manufacturers may produce the vehicles with tinted glasses which provide for 70 per cent Visual Light Transmission (VLT) for safety glasses on windscreen (front and rear) and 40 per cent VLT for side glasses, the apex court said.Tinted

The VVIPs, who have Z and Z+-category security only, will be exempted from this rule. Other than Z category, all government officials, politicians and VVIPs come under this rule and they have to remove the tint glasses.
“We will start collecting fines from vehicle owners who have not removed the tinted glasses in the wake of the Supreme Court’s order” said SP Patil.

The police have already removed the tinted glass from its vehicles and hence requested the citizens to follow suit.

A first-time offender will be fined Rs 100, a second-time offender Rs 300 and a third violation would result in the confiscation of the license in addition to a fine of Rs 300.

  1. We should Obey the Law of the land we live in. I welcome this move by the supreme court and get your tinted glasses removed or get it tinted glasses which provide for 70 per cent Visual Light Transmission (VLT) for safety glasses on windscreen (front and rear) and 40 per cent VLT for side glasses . This is a Good move towards security as at least one could try to recognise or identify a person in the car in case of hit and run, kidnapping, rape etc.

  2. Law are made to obey & is a agreement & also duties of a citizen , its true… Our India is a really a democratic country but in words. There are loots , dacoiting, Murders, Gun shoots happen in days & even on open populated roads, I do not know how just removing tinted glasses will work. Its just like someone will keep bombs in bathroom in house & orders are released to stop putting doors for bathroom in homes. Atleast now it will be easy to gun shoot someone (who wants) because now he can easily see his target inside the car. Just a concern ..above comments its just a personal view & not for social consideration.

    • Quoting you “There are loots , dacoiting, Murders, Gun shoots happen in days & even on open populated roads,”
      – Exactly that is what this law tries to minimize. When everybody is able to see the person inside, the chances of premeditation of such act reduces, thus discouraging daring acts to a certain levels. If you have read certain reports where some innocent girl is raped in the moving car, its behind the shades of these tinted glasses that the offender usually manages to escape. If one could see inside, such acts probably would not take place at all.

Again quoting you”Atleast now it will be easy to gun shoot someone (who wants) because now he can easily see his target inside the car. ”
      – The people who are vulnerable to such level of attacks ( I mean where guns are used to kill) are usually the people who already come under the purview of a VIP or VVIP, and the law exempts them( please bear in mind that I am not trying to glorify them. I am also a common citizen like you, but we have to accept that some people are more ‘important’ than others to the society..ofcourse not all of them would justifiably be so, but all the same, atleast for now they are in that position..lets not argue on the definition and justification of being a VIP here, else we would be straying off the line of discussion).

Quoting you again “above comments its just a personal view & not for social consideration.”
-Exactly!! This law is more in line with social consideration than personal luxuries 😉
