Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda yesterday held a meeting of elected representatives of Belgaum district and PWD officials and reviewed work of the Suvarna Soudha. The PWD said that the civil works of the site had completed and only internal works were pending, and most of them would be completed by June 25.
D V Sadananda Gowda has been authorised by the cabinet to take the final decision on when to hold the assembly session at the new venue. But sources told this blog that as July 19 is the date for presidential elections the monsoon session could be deferred, but nothing is fixed as yet.
The cost of the project is Rs. 391 crore out of which Rs.358 crore have been spent already.
The civil works are completed and internal fittings are in progress. The Main dome is almost ready would be fitted before the due date as well.
So from the looks it seems the Suvarna Soudha this time is far more better prepared than the last times it was announced to be. The approach road, land scaping etc still is in progress and will take time.

Finally after long wait belgaum is getting something that is noticeable. Though it may have overcost, got delayed, extension of deadlines, may be there was corruption and n number of hurdles. when It is completed I will be proud to say that in belgaum we have a soudha. A feather in belgaum’s cap.
utter waste if tax payer’s hard earned money…… will it make any difference to the quality of life for a common man is the million dollar question to be answered ?
Hope it starts functioning as soon as possible and we have assembly sessions every year. It would definitely give some importance to this city.
It is good to have a structure of such massive proportion in Belgaum. It is also situated in the most appropriate location on top of a hill. Belgaum has been neglected for too long but now seems to be getting the recognition it deserves. I feel that business and commerce should follow the Suvarna Soudha here which should hopefully be sustainable in the long run. I would have preferred that they might have come up with a different architectural structure which was unique yet marvellous as even if you build another Taj Mahal it will never eclipse the original one and will always be called a replica. It seems to me that we lack imagination and innovativeness. However I am happy to see this impressive structure standing in all its glory. I just hope the quality of this construction lasts for hundreds of years to come.
